Earlier this month we talked about the South Campus Chiller Plant being constructed on the corner of Cannon Drive and 12th Avenue. This building will provide 30,000 tons of chilled water to the new James Cancer Hospital and Critical Care Center, along with other Medical Center buildings on south campus, to provide cooling for these building.
More than 1,700 linnear feet of chilled water lines are being being assembled underground along portions of 10th Avenue from Cannon Drive to Neil Avenue. These lines, averaging more than 36″ in diameter, will run from the chiller plant to various Medical Center buildings.
Depending on the demand, anywhere from 4,600 to 39,000 gallons of water will run through these lines a minutes. Now that’s a lot of water!
The assembly of the chilled water lines is expected to wrap up in June. During that time, many Medical Center streets that are currently closed, will reopen.
